Culpeper Regional Hospital Announces 2010 Employee of the Year
Sue Gordon and Lee Kirk

Culpeper, Virginia- Culpeper Regional Hospital presented RN Sue Gordon with the 2010 Ruth M. Haught Employee of the Year Award on Thursday, May 20.

Sue received the nomination from Director of Advocacy, Education and Medical Outpatient Services, Becky Bohler and Vice President of Nursing, Janice Suter for her dedication to patient-centered care and her willingness to help out whenever and wherever needed.

“Sue is one of the most dedicated, hardworking, unselfish professionals that I have ever worked with.  Being flexible is an understatement. When staffing issues have come up, Sue has said, ‘We will all pull together and take care of the patients, we will be fine.’  She has even volunteered to readjust her vacation time. Sue has always been a role model for others around her,” says Suter.

“Her dedication to our 4 C’s: care, competence, compassion and courtesy is inspiring,” says Bohler. “Sue has come in on her days off to make sure patient-centered care happened and has stayed late to save the patient an additional night in the hospital.”

Sue has worked at Culpeper Regional Hospital for 35 years this coming August and currently works in multiple departments including medical outpatient, cardiology, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.

“Sue has proved her excellence in every position that she has worked in.  She is a true mentor to other nurses,” says Bohler.  “As a director I know that I can count on her to do what is best for the patient in all situations.”

Her nominators both agree that Sue has a continual commitment to Culpeper Regional Hospital’s core values: compassion, integrity, teamwork, stewardship and excellence.

“Sue is truly an asset to our organization, whether it is sharing her medical expertise, comforting a patient or being our local seamstress. She is always there with a smile, eager to do what is needed for her hospital, department and most of all her patients,” says Suter.

An award ceremony was held on May 20 to announce the nominees and recipient of the Employee of the Year honor. Sue’s family and co-workers were in attendance to celebrate her accomplishment.
